Colegio de Mendive

Activities

At this school, which once Cuba's national hero José Martí went to and named after his mentor Mendive, was cleaned by our company. We cleaned parts of the main façade using A vortex blasting process and provided the footpaths around the historic building with a special epoxy resin mortar coating. After completion of the work, the school was reopened on 3 September 2018.

Monumento de José Martí, Parque Central

Activities

The marble monument of Cuban national hero José Martí has been in the Parque Central in Havana for over 60 years. In order to remove the impurities that have arisen over the years, we first cleaned the monument by vortex blasting. Afterwards, damaged areas were restored and finished with a special acrylate-based marble supplement mortar. So we were able to restore three of the five fingers of the right hand. At the end of the work, we treated the entire monument with a special impregnating coating. The surrounding concrete structures were also cleaned, restored and impregnated.

Palacio de Capitanes Generales (outer facade)

Activities

This project involved the exterior facade of the former residence of the governors of Havana. The lower area was heavily polluted on three out of four sides. In order to protect the surface, we have used the vortex blasting method with a very low pressure to remove the dirt.

Completion time: June 2017 – July 2017

Edificio Calle Industria y Barcelona (Comedor de Asamblea Nacional)

Activities

The historic façade behind the Capitol was heavily polluted and partially encrusted. We cleaned the approximately 2,000 m² facade by means of a vortex blasting process and then extensively restored damaged areas and details. We processed over 2 tons of a special acrylate mortar, which was color-matched to the cleaned structure. The entire facade was then treated and impregnated with a silica-based stone strengthening material.

Completion time: October 2016 – January 2017

Edificio Calle O'Reilly and Tacon (San Cristobal, Agencia de Viaje)

Activities

Due to Heavy polution and centermeter thick incrustations - the historic façade next to the Palacio de Capitanes Generales was in extremely poor condition. We cleaned the roughly 1,900 m² facade with the vortex blasting process and subsequently restored large damaged sections. Particularly difficult to clean were the elaborately designed flower reliefs. For this work, we used a special acrylate mortar, which we adapted to the color of the cleaned structure.

Monumento del Che en Santa Clara

  • Free restoration of the monument in honor of the Cubans with a total value of € 70,000.00

Activities

This project will be remembered by us for a long time. The Monumento del Che in Santa Clara is a museum of a very special kind. Fidel Castro Ruz had it built in 1997 for his friend Ernesto Che Guevarra. Today, the remains of Che Guevara and his comrades lei in rest. The famous Heroes Cemetery of the Martyrs and the survivors of the revolution is also part of this impressive complex. As a gift for the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Ernesto Che Guevarra, we have restored the monument for free. Particularly challenging was the cleaning of the six-meter-high bronze statue at a height of 20 meters and in strong wind: We cleaned the natural patina from a crane basket to the desired color by means of a vortex-blasting process. To preserve the substance, we had to work very slowly and with low air pressure. The work in dizzying heights was very demanding, but the result was impressive. After four weeks of intensive work, the project was completed and the monument shone in new splendor just in time for the anniversary.

Heroes' Cemetery, Segundo Frente

MD Projektmanagement – Grabmal Heldenfriedhof in Segundo Frente

Activities

This place has impressed all project participants lasting. For the hero cemetery in Segundo Frenze once again shows the bond of the Cuban East with its history and its heroes. In the midst of a wonderful landscape, strangely interwoven with the elements, structures and details of this place, we worked at the tomb of Wilma Espin, later wife of Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz. Our mission: to clean and restore the tomb. The goal was to clean and lighten the 40-tonne granite stone.

Not only the reception by the Coronel Vazquesito, who fought on the side of Fidel Castro, Raul and Che Guevara, but everything in this place has been deeply engraved in us. We felt it was a sign of great trust to be involved in the renewal of this historical treasure. Because of this, we performed the work on the last resting place of Wilma Espin as gratitude for her life's work free of charge and voluntarily.

Catedral de La Habana

Activities

The work on the approximately 1,200 m² Baroque façade of the Catedral de La Habana was one of the hardest and most beautiful works that we were able to do in Cuba. Prior to the visit of Pope Francis, we had the order to restore the facade of the cathedral. The areas, some of which are difficult to access, were first intensively cleaned by means of vortex blasting and the encrustations, some of which were centimeters thick, were removed. Unfortunately, after the cleaning, serious damage came to light: some components had been loosened by roots of the small trees in the facade and threatened to crash. The hazardous areas therefore had to be carefully removed and relocated, many components had to be re-glued and secured.
